Rodrigo Landa-Romero is a 14 year old Mexican pianist and composer born 2006. He began both playing the piano and composing when he was six years old. Between ages 6 to 11, he composed 21 Preludes for piano solo and a Dance. At age 11, he began his first orchestral piece, a Piano Concerto, which he finished at age 12. There followed a Concerto for Violin, Piano and Orchestra (age 12), a Fantasie for Four Hands (age 13), a Symphony (age 13), a Symphonic Poem, "Three Cat Scenes" (premiered at Carnegie Hall on December 2019), a Lied, a Vienesse Waltz, a Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello, an Allegro for children's choir, an Adagio for guitar and string quartet (age 14), Three Lullabies (age 14), three Piano Sonatas, Six Variations on a theme by Alma Deutscher, among others.

Rodrigo has performed in numerous concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City, one of the most important in the world. 

Rodrigo plays on a 110 year old Steinway & Sons concert piano. His piano teachers are Rosa María Torner (Mexican Music Conservatory), Raúl de la Mora and Margarita de la Mora (both from the Mexican Music Conservatory, Juilliard, and Claudio Arrau’s School). Rodrigo’s technique comes from Scarlatti, Nicola Porpora, Haydn, Beethoven, Czerny, Liszt, Martin Krause, Claudio Arrau, among others. Likewise, Rodrigo studies violin with Damiana Orué (Royal School of Music).

As a pianist, he has interpreted works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Rachmaninoff, Czerny, Alma Deutscher, among others. Rodrigo is now studying Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto and already plays the first movement (he won Honorable Mention in the "Grand Prize Virtuoso Vienna International Music Competition 2019" and a Young Talent Award in the "Vienna New Year's Concert International Music Competition 2019" with his performance).

Rodrigo has participated in several music competitions, including the  “International Music Competition Grand Prize Virtuoso Paris 2020”, where he won First Prize; the  “International Music Competition Grand Prize Virtuoso London 2020”, where he won First Prize; the "American Protégé International Piano & Strings Competitio 2020" at Carnegie Hall, where he won Honorable Mention; the “International Music Competition Grand Prize Virtuoso Vienna 2019", where he won an Honorable Mention; the "Vienna New Year's Concert International Music Competition 2019", where he won a "Young Talent Award"; the "American Protégé International Music Talent Competition Fall 2019" at Carnegie Hall, where he won Third Prize, among others. The Music Committee of the "3rd Berliner International Music Competition 2019" recalled that Rodrigo has "an extraordinary talent with great musicality and technique (who) is destined to play an important role in classical music".  Finalist in the International Anton Rubinstein Competition - Piano Junior 2020, Internationale Musikakademie, Dusseldorf, Germany. 

Rodrigo is part of the Friends Program of the New York Philharmonic and of the UNAM Philharmonic Orchestra (OFUNAM).

Besides music, Rodrigo loves nature (specially birds and trees) and enjoys swimming, biking, playing chess and other board games, doing Tae Kwon Do and taking inspirational strolls through his garden.
