In this edition of the Competition, applicants are required to submit a short piano solo work (from 2-3 minutes) before March 31, 2022. The First and Second Prize Winners' compositions will be performed on July 2022 by renowned pianist and composer Rodrigo Landa-Romero, and high quality cinematic videos will be made using equipment worth more than €8,000 EUR.

Open to all applicants internationally, no age limit.

Requirements of the piece

-The work must be originally written for piano solo and composed in its entirety by the applicant.

-The duration of the piece must be between 2 to 3 minutes approximately. Any composition that is not within the time limit will be disqualified. 

- The composition must be previously unperformed (in public) and unpublished. By participating, an applicant confirms that the composition submitted is 100% in his/her property.

-The piece must have only one movement. 

-Participants may submit more than one work (paying the corresponding entry fee).

Application

-Applicants shall submit their works via the online form of the Competition.

Prizes

-1st Grand Prize: €210 EUR and a high quality recording video. The Winner's work will be interpreted by Rodrigo Landa-Romero on July 2022, and a 4k music video will be made. It will be published on Rodrigo's YouTube, his Instagram (where he has more than 5,000 followers), this website and will also be available for the Winner's personal use.

-2nd Prize: high quality recording video. The 2nd Prize Winner's composition will also be performed by Rodrigo on July 2022, and a 4k music video will be made. It will be published on Rodrigo's YouTube, his Instagram, this website and will also be available for the Winner's personal use.

-Other prizes: Some works can win other Special Prizes based on the judges' recommendations. That includes several Honorable Mentions and Extraordinary Talent Awards.

Deadline

-The deadline for entries is March 31, 2022. Any works received afterwards will not be taken in consideration for the Competition.

-The results of the Competition will be published in this website on April 30, 2022.

Entry fee

-The entry fee for each work submitted is €35 EUR. The payment shall be done via PayPal. Application fees are refundable, but only if the inconveniece is caused by the Competition.

 

IMPORTANT: Payment shall be done before submitting the form (proof of payment is required).

 

 

 

Jury

-A panel of qualified musicians will evaluate the compositions submitted, and the judging sessions will be held in April 2022. The decisions are unquestionable and unrevocable.

ABOUT RODRIGO

  • Rodrigo Landa-Romero is a 16 year old Mexican concertizing pianist, composer and filmmaker born 2006. He started playing the violin at the tender age of 2, and played with a baton simulating to be a conductor. He then started playing the piano and composing at age 6. Now, he is being internationally recognized both as a pianist and a composer of classical music. “I want people to know that the creation of new classical music is still alive, and will always be” – Rodrigo.

  • Named one of the World's Top 100 Child Prodigies 2022, Global Child Prodigy Awards, ceremony to be held in Dubai, February 2022.

  • He has been internationally acclaimed by worldwide known celebrities like conductor Elim Chan and guitarist Pablo Sainz Villegas (considered by many to be the best classical guitarist in the World). He remarked that “it is inspiring that Rodrigo composes such beautiful music while being so young”.

  • He has performed his own compositions at numerous concert halls, including Carnegie Hall in New York City (considered by many to be the most important in the world), where he debuted on December 14, 2019.

  • He has released 9 albums so far (available on Spotify, Amazon, and others) of his own compositions, including a 50 min. Orchestral Soundtrack for a documentary, which he composed in only five days; a Concerto for Violin and Orchestra; among others. He was the subject of a documentary by the GPC called “The Making of a Prodigy’s Violin Concerto”, where the whole process of releasing his new concerto is explained. He is currently in the intense process of filming a movie about his life.

  • His piano technique descends from Ludwig van Beethoven, Carl Czerny, Franz Liszt, Martin Krause, Claudio Arrau, among others. His piano teachers are from the Juilliard School of Music.

Privacy Policy

By participating in the "Rodrigo Landa-Romero International Composition Competition 2022" an applicant:

-accepts the Competition's guidelines.

-grants Rodrigo Landa-Romero the right to use his/her name, mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, and any other personal information required from the applicant for the purpose of administering the Competition, including but not limited to contacting and announcing the Winner.

-Applicants retain 100% of their rights over their music.

-No royalties can be charged for performing or publishing by the Competition the Winning works.
