Rodrigo Landa-Romero International Composition Competition 2021

The Winner will get to publish his/her work on Spotify, Amazon, and other digital platforms!


In this edition of the Competition, applicants are required to submit a short piano solo work (from 2-3 minutes) before January 31, 2021. The First Prize Winner's composition will be performed on March 2021 by 14 year old pianist and composer Rodrigo Landa-Romero. Afterwards, Rodrigo will write Six Variations (for piano and orchestra) on the theme and have them published as an album on Spotify, Amazon, Deezer, and other digital platforms. Also, a special cash award (up to €150 EUR) will be awarded at the discretion of the Jury.

Open to all applicants internationally, no age limit.

Requirements of the piece

-The work must be originally written for piano solo and composed in its entirety by the applicant.

-The duration of the piece must be between 2 to 3 minutes approximately. Any composition that is not within the time limit will be disqualified. 

-We encourage applicants to write beautiful, interesting music.

- The composition must be previously unperformed (in public) and unpublished. By participating, an applicant confirms that the composition submitted is 100% in his/her property.

-The piece must have only one movement. 

-Participants may submit more than one work (paying the corresponding entry fee).


-Applicants shall submit their works via the online form of the Competition.


-1st Grand Prize: The Winner's work will be interpreted by Rodrigo Landa-Romero on March 2021. A high quality recording video will be made and published on YouTube and on this website. By November 2021, Rodrigo will have composed Six Orchestral Variations (for piano and orchestra) on the piece, to be released as an album on Spotify, Amazon, and other digital music platforms.  Note: given the COVID 19 pandemic, the orchestra will be digital (and Rodrigo will record the piano).

-2nd Prize: The Winner of the 2nd Prize will  have his or her work interpreted by Rodrigo on March 2021. A high quality recording video will be made and published on YouTube and on this website. 

-Jury's Award: Up to €150 EUR will be given to the Winner of this Award, and his/her name will be published at this website.

-Other prizes: Some works can win other Special Prizes based on the judges' recommendations. That includes several Honorable Mentions and Extraordinary Talent Awards.


-The deadline for entries is January 31, 2021. Any works received afterwards will not be taken in consideration for the Competition.

-The results of the Competition will be published at this website on February 20, 2021.

Entry fee

-The entry fee for each work submitted is €25 EUR. The payment shall be done via PayPal. Application fees are refundable.


IMPORTANT: Payment shall be done before submitting the form (proof of payment is required).





The Chairman of the Jury will be pianist and composer Rodrigo Landa-Romero. There will be two more qualified judges to evaluate the compositions submitted.

The Jury's decisions are unquestionable and unrevocable.

Privacy Policy

By participating in the "Rodrigo Landa-Romero International Composition Competition 2021" an applicant:

-accepts the Competition's guidelines.

-grants Rodrigo Landa-Romero the right to use his/her name, mailing address, telephone number, e-mail address, and any other personal information required from the applicant for the purpose of administering the Competition, including but not limited to contacting and announcing the Winner.

-Winners will retain the rights over their work, and it will always be given credit.

-In case of any legal issues, the Spanish guidelines prevail.
